The Community Youth Initiative (C.Y.I.)

Hi, my name is Amanda, and I am the CAP Youth Intern here at Whitevalley.

The PCNA Youth Internship program is a national initiative coordinated by Innovation, Science and Economic Development. This initiative is funded through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. The overall objective of the YI Program is to support Canadian youth in gaining a wide range of digital skills and to assist them with their transition to the labor market.
I am getting the opportunity to increase my “digital skills”! Wiping hard drives; installing & uninstalling software like word, excel, advisor and more. Part of my internship duties, is to help those who need direction when using new technology.

Monday mornings from 9:30-11:45, I spend time at the Saddle Mountain Seniors Center. Residents can sign up to spend a half hour, or longer, with me and we go over whatever it is they need help with. Whether it is sending an e-mail; transferring photos; setting up a new laptop or learning how to use their cell phone.

I am offering times here at Whitevalley for people to come in and receive technical support as needed. You can come into the office or phone 250-547-8866 to set up an appointment!
